About the Bogong Moth
A dark brown moth that migrates up to around a thousand kilometers each spring to cool caves in the Australian Alps, where millions rest through summer. Aboriginal people traditionally gathered and roasted them as a rich food. Research published in 2025 showed they can navigate using the stars. After a population crash in 2017 and later years, it was listed as Endangered.
