About the Silver-spotted Skipper
One of the most recognizable skippers in North America, brown with a large silver-white patch on the underside of each hindwing. Like other skippers it has a thick body and hooked antennae. Its caterpillars feed on legumes such as black locust and build shelters by folding leaves with silk. They can fling their droppings away from the shelter to avoid predators.
