About the Six-spot Burnet
A day-flying moth with glossy blue-black forewings carrying six bright red spots. Both caterpillars and adults contain cyanide compounds, which they can make themselves or obtain from their food plant, bird-foot trefoil. Their bright colors warn predators. It is often seen feeding on knapweeds and thistles on sunny summer days.
