About the Comma

Named for the small white comma-shaped mark on their otherwise cryptic brown underwing. Their ragged wing edges make them look exactly like a dead leaf when closed. One of the first butterflies to emerge in spring. Their caterpillars feed on nettles and hops. A rare example of a butterfly that has expanded its range northward with climate change. Produce two generations per year that look different.
