About the Common Jezebel
A white butterfly from above, but its underside is splashed with brilliant yellow and red, a warning that it is distasteful. Its caterpillars feed on mistletoes and are thought to gain toxins from them. Common in gardens across India and Sri Lanka. Adults fly slowly and openly, relying on their warning colors. Other butterflies mimic its pattern.
