Dead Leaf Butterfly

About the Dead Leaf Butterfly

The ultimate master of camouflage. When wings are closed, they look exactly like a dried brown leaf — complete with midrib, veins, and even fake leaf spots that look like decay or insect damage. Some even have a fake stem (their tail). When they open their wings, brilliant orange, blue, and white are revealed. They deliberately angle themselves to maximize the leaf illusion. One of nature greatest disguise acts.
