Glasswing
About the Glasswing
Their wings are literally transparent — the tissue between veins lacks the colored scales found on other butterflies. The transparent areas are anti-reflective, making them nearly invisible in flight. Despite their delicate appearance, they are strong fliers that migrate long distances. Males convert alkaloids from their diet into pheromones for mating. Their caterpillars feed on toxic plants, making adults unpalatable to predators.
