About the Gulf Fritillary
A bright orange butterfly whose underside is covered in elongated silver spots. Despite its name it is not a true fritillary but a relative of the longwings. Its caterpillars feed on passionflowers and are spiny and orange. Common in gardens across the southern US. Adults migrate north in summer and fall, sometimes reaching far beyond their breeding range.
