About the Harvester
The only butterfly in North America with carnivorous caterpillars. They feed on woolly aphids, often covering themselves with the remains of their prey for camouflage. Adults do not visit flowers but drink aphid honeydew. Usually found near alders and beech trees where woolly aphids live. Its development is unusually fast for a butterfly.
