About the Julia Butterfly

A bright orange longwing with long, narrow wings. Its caterpillars feed on passionflower vines. In the Amazon, Julia butterflies have been photographed drinking the tears of caimans and turtles to obtain salt, a behavior known as lachryphagy. A fast flier often seen in butterfly houses. Many regional forms differ in color and pattern.
