About the Owl Butterfly

A large butterfly named for the huge eyespots on the underside of its hindwings, which are thought to startle predators or resemble the eyes of an owl. It flies mainly at dawn and dusk. Adults feed on the juice of rotting fruit. Its caterpillars feed on banana and heliconia leaves and can be a pest on banana plantations. A favorite in butterfly houses.
