Emperor (Purple)
About the Emperor (Purple)
The most prized butterfly among British collectors. Males have stunning purple iridescence that only appears at certain angles, caused by microscopic wing structures. They spend most of their time high in oak trees, rarely descending. Males are attracted to animal dung, rotting fruit, and even sweaty humans for salts. Females are larger but lack the purple sheen. Once called His Imperial Majesty by Victorian collectors.
