About the Queen
A close relative of the Monarch, deep brown-orange with white spots on its black borders. Its caterpillars feed on milkweeds and the adults are distasteful to predators. Males visit certain plants to gather chemicals that they turn into courtship pheromones, which they dust onto females with hair pencils on their abdomen. Unlike the Monarch it does not make long migrations.
