About the Atlas Moth

The largest moth in the world by wing area, reaching 400 sq cm. Their wingtips resemble cobra heads — a defense mechanism that deters predators. They have no functioning mouthparts as adults and live only 1-2 weeks on fat stored as caterpillars. Produce silk that is stronger and tougher than silkworm silk. Their cocoons are used as small purses in Taiwan. Named after the Greek titan Atlas.
