About the Cecropia Moth
The largest native moth in North America with a wingspan up to 16 cm. Their caterpillars are equally impressive, reaching 10 cm with colorful tubercles. Despite their size, they are harmless. Adults have no functional mouthparts. Females release pheromones that males can detect from 5 km away. Their silk is used by some spider species to build webs. One generation per year.
