About the Garden Tiger Moth
A strikingly colored moth with cream and brown forewings and bright orange hindwings spotted with blue-black. The bright colors warn predators that it is poisonous. Its very hairy caterpillar is known as the woolly bear. Its numbers have fallen greatly in Britain in recent decades, possibly linked to warmer, wetter winters. It is active at night.
