About the Rajah Brooke Birdwing
Named after Sir James Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak. Males have spectacular iridescent green wing patches. Their hindwings have distinctive tooth-shaped projections. They gather at riverbanks to drink minerals from wet sand — a behavior called puddling. Males form lekking groups where they display to females. Protected under CITES. The national butterfly of Malaysia.
