Elephant Hawk-moth
About the Elephant Hawk-moth
One of the most colorful moths, with bright pink and olive-green coloring that looks tropical but lives in temperate regions. Named after their caterpillar which, when extended, resembles an elephant trunk. The caterpillar has four large eyespots near its head that make it look like a small snake. They can hover in front of flowers like hummingbirds. Their pink coloring is among the most vivid of any European insect.
